Color Me In! was founded in 2008 because we believe that the drive to help others in the world should not distract the process of allowing people to learn to stand on their own two feet.
We work with loans rather than hand-outs. Working with a network of local partners in Zambia, we connect with groups of entrepreneurs to help fund business loans in the rural to semi-urban areas. From chicken-rearing, to bee-keeping to soya-production, CMI loans are given to registered clubs and are paid back through a combination of tree planting and cash payments.
We are currently working on shifting more and more of our loans to a 100% cash-based repayment plan. This will enable us as an organization to stand our own two financial feet a bit more, and also foster a healthy practice in credit with our clients. It is our goal to move more and more towards a Zambian-based lending service which is effective, environmentally conscious, and appropriate to the cultural, political and environmental context of Zambia.
