Bupensebele Household Fish Farmers
Bupensenbele Fish Farmers are a collective of ten households who came together to support the growth of their individual ponds near Mkushi, Central Province.

Status: The fish farmers purchased commercial fish feed as well as raised sorghum, maize, soya and sunflower last rainy season (Nov-March) to make a feed mix lasting through 2011. They have set aside a portion of their feed as a reward for the members with the best performance in their ponds, and they are planning to use some of their profits to support a village community school still in need of basic supplies.
Junior Farm and Field Life School
JFFLS was Founded in 2006 as a community school catering to orphaned children from the surrounding 5 villages near Mungwi, Northern Province.They focus on teaching life skills through hands-on activities.

Status: The three female pigs just gave birth to a litter of piglets and the school is selling them on the local market. Community leaders of the school are trying to recruit 20 new students, and JFFLS is working in collaboartion with the local Community Development and Agricultural Offices to help monitor the business.
Help Ministries
Based outside of Serenje in Central, HMP runs an orphanage for vulnerable children and also leads classes on valuable vocational and agricultural skills.

Status: More updates are needed on the productivity of the soya cultivation and net profits. In 2011-2012 HMP is interested in investing some of their funds into community loans for 4 local women's groups. More extensive information will be available by November at the latest.
Mupimbishi Women's Club
A group of 56 women near Mpika, Northern Province, Mupimbishi was formed to help the members to improve their standards of living through self-help initiative utilizing natural resources within the area.

Status: The women of Mupimbishi have decided to reward members who successfully complete the planting of 200 trees with the opportunity to receive one offspring from the group piggery. Three of the pigs have given birth, and the group expects more pregnancies to follow soon.
Family Health Trust
FHT works with women's groups outside of Monze, Southern Province, who care for orphans and vulnerable children.

Status: FHT has experienced challenges as an organization and is currently not operating at a high level due to lack of funds. The women's clubs however who benefited from the loans have continued selling school uniforms and other clothing items for the local market.
Twikatane
The 9 females and 3 males of Twikatane came together to reduce poverty, unemployment, and improve standards of living. They are located in the Lilanda area of Central Province.

Status: Twikatane's garden was attacked by Red Spider, killing most of the tomatoes that they had raised for sale. The members are working on ideas for alternative income generating activities to help repay the loan and support another effort at a vegetable garden.
Itamina Natabalage Disabled Development Organization
The 14 male and 8 female members of Itamina came together to support physically challenged members of the local community mitigate the effects of HIV and support gender equality. They are located outside of Kasama, Northern Province.

Status: The members of Itamina are taking care of over half a dozen hives, the majority of which have been occupied and are producing honey. With their profits from the beekeeping and a side business in woodworking, they would like to support a local community group supporting HIV positive members of the community.
Lusuntha Agro-Forestry Community Based Organization
LACBO is a group of 16 males and 16 females working collectively to improve standards of living based outside of Lundazi, Eastern Province.

Katondo Neighborhood Health Committee
The Katondo NHC is a group of 10 male and 15 female volunteers outside of Lundazi, Eastern Province trained by the govnernment to support healthy childhood development, care for the vulnerable, and safe pregnancies.

Status: The members of Katondo NHC have built and stocked two ponds of fish. As the ponds are harvested, the plan to use the funds to support community health outreach activities. Updated reports are needed and will be available by November.
MILEX Community School
Amount: $7,000
Business: Maize Processing (Hammermill)

Status: MILEX Community School has experienced a number of unforeseen challenges. 1) The hammermill (machine that grinds maize into the staple flour) that they were sold did not work properly and a large percentage of profits have been spent on the repair; 2) Poor quality, high price repair work has not fixed the machine, and; 3) The school's Founder and Head Teacher Mirrium Mwamba passed away at the young age of 25 from Childbirth in March of 2010. Currently, the school is working in collaboration with the local Chief, Community Development Office and CMI to assess alternative options for income generation.

Chindwin Savings and Loans Association (SLA)
Chindwin SLA is a group of 25 dedicated community health workers who came together to form a rotating savings and loan group in order to not only provide financial opportunities to group members, but to support local medical outreach to the vulnerable with some of the profits raised through the interest on their loans .

Business: Hybrid Poultry

Status: The hybrid poultry business faced challenges such as increase in market price of feed, sickness, and competition from local sellers. With the income from the poultry sales, the SLA offered loans to two local women's groups in addition to hosting training sessions on income generation for over 60 women. Tree planting has been taking longer than expected due to inexperience with group members and weather, however SLA leaders participated in a number of CMI client exchange visits and training sessions recently and will continue work this November. Currently the SLA is awaiting a secondary loan to build on lessons from their first business attempt, and they are also working with CMI leading a series of loans at 8% interest rate to women's groups around Kabwe.
Tilele, Tikahazikisike, Nundwe
Leopard and Dunda
Five community groups representing over 70 individuals came together with CMI partner RFDP to improve their livelihoods through group income generation. They are located outside of Lundazi, Eastern Province and received loans on an individual group basis.

Status: Each of the five groups of clients has successfully repaid their loan 50% in cash and 50% by planting trees. Despite periodic success in their business ventures, the groups are currently facing challenges with lack of capital to reinvest in growth - many of the profits were spent on farming inputs during this past rainy season. Return on the loans was used to support monitoring and evaluation activities carried out by CMI partner RFDP.
Tiyeseko Women's Club
Amount: $1,000
Business: Hybrid poultry

Status: Tiyeseko forwarded $200 of their profits to the Kasokota Social Care for the Vulnerable (KSCV). To date KSCV has been able to help over 75 vulnerable members of the community including building new homes for the elderly and providing services for the physically disabled, orphaned and HIV positive. Tiyeseko's business faced challenges from increased price of feed and sickness, however with additional profits they managed to to pay school fees for their children and purchase a plot of land for their group. They are currently awaiting a secondary loan.
