Board of Directors:
Sarah Grant (Chair) - A graduate of the Hyde School and Dickinson College, Sarah served in the Peace Corps from 2005-2007 in Zambia and specialized in forestry, conservation farming, gender, small business and community growth. An avid artist and runner, Sarah is a creative entrepreneur inspired by the potential for change and the ability of everyone regardless of class, culture or status to pursue a life based upon their potential.
David Hinchman (Treasurer) - David is the retired Chairman and CEO of U.S. Precision Lens, a world leader in the development and manufacture of optical systems for projection video. A longtime resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, he has served as director for several local companies, President of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, and as a director/trustee for several educational, charitable and religious organizations. A graduate of Princeton University, he and his wife, Hobey currently reside in Florida
James Ferrari – Founder and Director of Benjamin James Real Estate in Manhattan, James is active in the world of social entrepreneurship, visual art and philanthropy with a focus on Africa. In addition to his work in Real Estate, James works with developing world governments and NGOs with a goal of bridging partnerships as a means of diplomacy; he is a member of the Foreign Policy Association, the Ubuntu Education Fund, the Public Policy Institute, the Real Estate Board of New York, NYSIA, New York Art Society and Society for the Preservation of Public Space and a friend of the Accompanied Library.
Max Barnett - Max has a Bachelors degree in Information technology, and a Masters in Political Management. For the past three years he has been working in International Development and is currently working with the State Department in Costa Rica. Max has training in fundraising (Newt Gingrich and Obama campaigns), and is willing to help us both with our website and fundraising plan over the next 2-3 years.
Mike Buffo - Mike has worked as an Extension Agent for the Forestry Department in Zambia from 2005-2008. He currently holds a Masters of Science in Forestry and lives in NM with his wife, who is a native born Zambian. Mike and his wife own a farm in Northwest Province (Zambia), and he is both passionate and experienced within the realm of aid and environmental development within Zambia.
Dan White - Dan currently works with ACDI, an organization based in DC focusing on providing economic opportunities to cooperatives, enterprises, and communities to succeed in rural business development. Dan has managed programs in both Mozambique and Nigeria, working closely with USAID and World Vision. Dan is dedicated to building sustainable opportunities for community economic development driven by community-led initiatives.
Henry Chilufya - Henry is a Zambian currently based in the Capital, Lusaka. Henry is the Assistant Program Manger for both the Forestry and Income Program, and the Rural Aquaculture Program in Zambia. Henry was formerly the District Leader of the Forestry Department in Luapula Province, Zambia, and is committed to building community-led initiatives to pair environmental conservation with economic opportunities.
Chalwe Mumba - Chalwe is an Associate at 3C: Development Management and Entrepreneurship Experts in Lusaka, Zambia. Supervising various rural development projects with a focus on orphans and vulnerable children, Chalwe has valuable experience and an in-depth commitment to facilitating multi-dimensional development in rural areas with the help of small to medium micro-enterprises.
Advisory Board:
Lackson Kanyemba - With a Masters in International Marketing and Trade, Mr. Kanyemba has served for close to 20 years at a number of managing levels with the Export Board of Zambia, where he was responsible for coordinating Zambia's participation in trade fairs and missions. Mr. Kanyemba is currently the Co-Founder and Director of Lihulo Enterprises, a Zambia-based enterprise-offering general trading, agro-business and business consultancy services to rural and urban clients.
Ned Baker - Ned is a Nonprofit Services Manager with Care2.com, the largest and fastest growing social action network for people who care about making a difference. Prior to this, Mr. Baker worked as a fisheries and agriculture extension agent in the Northern Province of Zambia through the U.S. Peace Corps, and led projects ranging from gender awareness to small business trainings to sustainable agriculture. Ned is passionate about travel and foreign cultures. When not globetrotting he is either convincing people to buy Apple products or volunteering as a tree-keeper and webmaster for Restore Mass Ave, a small nonprofit dedicated to urban forestry in Washington, D.C.
Edmee Knight - Edmee has served as a rural aquaculture extension agent in Zambia for over two years, living in the rural areas and working with community members to develop income generating activities, sustainable agricultural practices, gender awareness and community education. She is working for her masters in international business while running her own capitalist venture in Denver, CO.
Terry Mukuka - Terry is currently a Program Officer for Southern Africa for the American Jewish World Services, managing a portfolio of grants in Zambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Born in Zambia, Terry has worked for a number of Zambian and US-based NGO’s and development organizations including Children In Distress (CINDI) - Zambia’s largest community based HIV/AIDS program helping orphans and vulnerable children, Save Africa’s Children, and Harvest Help. He has spent most of his life working in Africa, particularly in Zambia for HIV/AIDS related programs. Terry holds a BA in Economics/Demography from the University of Zambia, Post Graduate in Development Studies from Kimmage Mannor, Ireland and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from California State University Long Beach.
Carl Wahl – Carl has worked with agricultural, conservation, and development issues in Zambia for the past seen years including positions with USAID, Concern Worldwide, and Peace Corps. Currently living in Western Province of Zambia, Carl is working as a conservation agricutlture consultant with USAID and is considering a position as Corrdinator for conservation agriculture for both Zambia and Malawi.
Hammer Simwinga - Hammer has been working for the past 15 years with conservation and economic programs in Northern Province, Zambia. He is currently the head of the Foundation for Wildlife and Habitat Conservation, a strong CMI partner for the past 2 years, and was the winner of the Goldman Environmental Award in 2007.
Elizaveta Moiseeva (Social Media Consultant) – Liza has worked for 18 months with CMI, originally as a grant-research and writing intern in 2010 and has since moved into an active position leading our efforts to increase our online network through social media sites, blogging and creative campaigning. Currently pursuing her graduate degree in Business, Liza is working on re-vamping our website while continuing to build a campaign for online networking and fundraising.
