Deforestation in Zambia

In many parts of Zambia fields for planting crops are prepped by cutting down and burning trees to balance the PH of the soil. This "Chitamene" system has deep cultural roots and is now a major source of deforestation along with cutting trees for charcoal production and collection of caterpillars as a food source.
