Why Whites Stick Together

I was pleasantly surprised the other day by the observations of a stranger on the street in Zambia and want to share them with you.As I was walking to the market in the capital city the other day to buy vegetables, a sharp looking Zambian of about the same age approached me from behind. "Madame, can I ask you a…See More

"Give me Christmas"

This is a request you hear frequently this time of year around Zambia. Passing by strangers, in the market or walking through my village where the CMI offices are you find strangers and good friends alike boldly requesting a gift in the name of Christmas with a smile on their face. I have always been surprised at how comfortable individuals are here with asking for something from you...money, candy or a gift. Often it can feel annoying and the mind wants to grumble about negative effects of…See More

It's All Been Worth It

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 12:30pm 5 Comments

Three years ago I had to make a decision about how much I wanted to change the world. Still drawn to Zambia after returning home from 2 1/2 years of service with the peace corps, my first thought on how to continue to make a difference was to raise money for the community school in my old village who was struggling after an NGO pulled their support. It would have been simple. Raise a few thousand dollars, build a school and feel good. As is often the case however when we…

What do you do if a donor or Foundation wants to give money to your non-profit, but has specific programs that it would like the money to fund? What if these programs do not fall 100% into your core mission, but in hard times money is money?

This article from the Harvard Business Review addresses the current…

Hey Sarah,

The site looks great and it looks like CMI has come a long way since I was last doing research for you guys. Im happy that the research is coming into good use, I only wish I could have done more!

I am in my last year at Boston U. Since being with CMI, I have been bouncing around internships focusing mostly on politics and political development. I spent the first 9 months of 2011 in DC where I was at a research institute called Institute for Women's Policy Research. I was working on the development of women's political participation in the MENA region. Then I spent the summer at the Foreign Affairs committee in the House of Reps. So it was a pretty exciting and enlighting experience. Now Im just finishing up my course work and interning at Conflict Dynamics International in Cambridge.

I love to get the updates on what you guys have been up to. Really looking like its moving along. I try and keep up regularly with the projects you have been working on and stuff. Thanks for inviting me to the site!

Talk to you soon,

Aaron
